Is Safari keeping us behind?

Safari is a great browser. I’ve used it since it came out and never switched everafter. I do use Firefox quite extensively when developing, thanks to Firebug – Joe Hewitt’s invaluable extension – but always return to safari for browsing.
However great Safari is, it is still a rather young browser, lacking in some areas. Some of the most advanced and crucial Ajax/JavaScript tricks, which can be made to work even in Internet Explorer 6 – alas often using proprietary properties, rather than Output W3C compliant ones – just don’t work in Safari at all.
Think about it:
- There is not one available JavaScript rich-text editor which works in Safari, while tons exist for Firefox and IE.
- All modern-browsers but Safari can be brought to support Back-button and browsing history for Ajax requests. Some solutions exist but they only partial and quite unstable (this looks exciting but I cannot test it in Safari as I am not writing this post from home).
Safari is a better, smarter, more standard compliant browser than IE hands down. But these small flaws are actually hindering the development of otherwise great solutions to some of the most important issues of web 2.0. So Steve, please announce Safari 3.0 asap! I’m sure it will be followed by an unprecedented surge in creativity.

Safari has definately spoiled me for other browsers. Hate it when I have to fire up firefox juuuust because Safari can’t handle something .. but I think one of the reasons I like it so much is it’s basic nature .. fast and clean and get’s 99% of the job done for me.

That’s not right. The CMS webEdition has one. See http://demo.en.webedition.info/ and http://support.living-e.de/en/news/index.php?we_objectID=481
